On October 28-30th, Dr. Mike Scanlon and Xiaolan Zhang (University of Georgia) visited Iowa State University to meet with project collaborators. During their visit, they discussed the analysis of microarray data with Dan Nettleton, compared notes rega rdi ng LCM techniques with Kaz Ohtsu and Marianne Smith, and particpated in demonstrations of the MAGI web site and the PathBinderH software. In addi ti on, Dr. Scanlon presented a seminar entitled "Analyses of early events in maize leaf development" and met with a variety of ISU faculty.

October 7, 2004

On October 7-9 2004, Dr. Mike Scanlon visited Truman State University to meet with project collaborators Drs. Brent Buckner, Diane Janick-Buckner and Jon Beck. Dr. Scanlon also met with additional Truman faculty and students, as well as the head o f the Division of Science and the university president. During this visit Dr. Scanlon presented a seminar entitled "Genetic analysis of the evolution of leaf morphology."

July 25, 2004

On June 15-16, 2004, Drs. Brent Buckner and Diane Janick-Buckner of Truman State University and three TSU undergraduates, Mike Ravenscraft, Chris Spencer and Jackie Weiss, who are working on the SAM project visited Iowa State University. The group had a rather packed schedule with demonstrations of Laser Microdissection and Pressure Catapulting (PALMTM) and accompanying sample preparation and microarray analysis with the ISU SAM team (Ms. Marianne Smith, Dr. Ruilian Zhou, Dr. Kazuhiro Ohtsu, Ms. Lisa Borsuk, Dr. Dan Nettleton, and Dr. Pat Schnable). They also toured the ISU campus, the maize diversity planting at the Curtiss farm, the Plant Introduction Station, and the DNA sequencing and proteomics facilities. Additionally, the group met with Ms. Linda Wild of the Interdepartmental Genetics Program.
